Hogs Back Brewery Limited
Hogs Back Brewery is a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region.
Hogs Back Brewery first opened its doors on the 4th August 1992, in 18th century farm buildings that at various times had stored wheat, and housed cattle and, appropriately, hogs. The brewhouse was what is now, our shop and the very first brew was Traditional English Ale, lovingly known as TEA, which was an instant hit.
The beer range wouldn’t be complete without traditional favourites like TEA and RipSnorter but we have added Hogstar Lager and Hazy Hog cider for a more contemporary feel, and are also leading the way with unique green-hopped beers and Montezuma’s, the world’s first real chocolate lager.
In 2014, Hogs Back planted our own traditional hop garden, just across the road from the brewery. It’s the first new hop garden in the immediate Farnham area for over 100 years and has become quite a local landmark, with many a traveller stopping to take a photo. Little do they know, our historic Farnham White Bine hops are not grown anywhere else in the world and all the Fuggles hops in our TEA all come from within walking distance of the brewery. Following our fourth harvest in 2018, we are moving our Hop Garden to a new site behind the brewery which is double the size of the current site meaning that we will grow 50% of all the hops we use.
The brewery is open for guided tours up to 9 times a week in the height of summer and the Brewery Shop is open all year round, selling bottles and takeaway draught beer for your weekend trips and events.
